Match Report FUCC Vs TGCC, Aug 29th, 2015

Post date: Sep 16, 2015 2:11:22 PM

A beautiful Saturday morning started with skipper winning the toss yet again and this time putting opposition to bat on a popular vote from the team since everyone of us wanted to test the chasing abilities. Our winning streak and momentum was coming back after a very dreadful defect from MCC. Everyone was pumped up and wanted to win this contest. This was one of the 3 games left before the face off starts.

Amit started the proceeding and got hurt in response to a very hard hit from the batsman and had to go out. Another injury...damn. The last thing captain wanted, but you can't do anything, can you? Jigs stepped up and bowled a 4 overs spell. Good spell by him. But opposition constantly kept on scoring thanks to misfields, dropped catches and extras(Especially wides...!).

Our dark horse, man of needs, Sunny K was brought and chipped on with a wicket on the very first bowl of his spell. He bowled a great spell of 6-0-23-1. A very commendable effort considering he rarely bowls in matches these days.

Rahul and VC did their job pretty well. Dennis was brought on to bowl last couple of overs and Boy he bowled with aggression. Took 2 wickets with sheer pace. So good to see someone putting his heart out while bowling. A captains's delight.

TGCC still managed to get to the total of 179, again thanks to misfields, dropped catches and 26 extras, out of which 20 wides. 3 extra overs.

So, FUCC had the target on board. Chasing is always tricky and chasing 6 RPO is not an easy task. There was need to put your heads down and chase this score. FUCC started with Skipper and Teji back at the top spot. FUCC lost Teji very early and again the onus was on Rahul and Skipper to steer the ship. Skipper was having difficulty timing the shots but Rahul stepped in and with his sheer brilliance and great selection of shots, he started scoring with sheer elegance and score board started ticking. This took off the pressure from skipper from other end and he started contributing with 1's, 2's and 3's. FUCC was happily placed at 90/1 after 14.5. Rahul and skipper were looking out to play off for the break. That is where game took a dramatic turn when Rahul got out hitting the wicket while playing his favorite pull. That was the last thing FUCC wanted and seemed like that was the only way to got Rahul out, taking himself down. A very sad way to end a brilliant knock.

After the break VC joined skipper and both batted responsibly. Unfortunately skipper got out against run a ball to a great catch. Sunny K joined VC but threw his wicket away. Thus putting tremendous pressure on lower middle order. Amit, VC tried their best to get the team closer to the target but lost their wickets in the process.

At the end FUCC fell short of the target by 9 runs and lost the game.

We are #2 team now and depends on #1 team. If they lose a game we will be back to top spot.

I will send another email at some  point analyzing the game.

Thanks
