FUCC vs KECC, 6th T20 2017 Carolina Cricket League @Wesotn park, April 1st 2017

FUCC were riding high after winning all their league games so far in the tournament and comfortably secured their spot in the play-offs. However, this games was also important for them to win to earn #1 rank in the tournament. After winning the toss FUCC decided to bat first. Gaurav and Raj opened the innings and as usual Raj gave a flying start and Gaurav had to retire as he started feeling sick. Raj showed no mercy on KECC bowlers, he kept hitting boundaries and sixes all-round the park before getting out on 43 of just 26 balls. Next in was Raj from Raleigh, Hit and Run team, playing his debut match for FUCC. Both Kishan and Raj scored at a steady pace and had a partnership of 35 runs. Stage was all set for FUCC to start accelerating but KECC made an excellent comeback by picking 6 wickets for just 21 runs, courtesy Ovais Quadir who took 3 wickets in his spell for only 9 runs, putting FUCC on the back foot at 104/8 in 15 overs. Rahul and Shiv continued from where they left in the morning game and had another unbeaten partnership of 50 runs taking FUCC to a respectable total of 153 in 20 overs.

Raj- 43(26)

Kishan- 24(29)

Rahul- 26(20) not out

Shiv- 24(17) not out.

Shiv started the bowling with a maiden over and Navi on the other end bowled with control but was unlucky in picking wickets as he did not get support from the fielders. KECC started off very cautiously scoring about 30 runs in the first 6 overs but they knew with their captian Zeeshan on the crease, required run rate will never be an issue for them. Zeeshan played smartly in his innings of 30+ before he fell to a good catch by Shiv on the long-off. Both Amit and Yash finished their spell with economic figures. Game was still on as KECC batsman kept rotating strike and scoring boundaries consistently. Raj and Rahul were introduced into bowling when KECC needed 60 odd runs in the last 7 overs and they both bowled with control giving about 7-8 run an over when the required run rate was above 10. In the last over KECC needed 14 run to win and Navi handed the ball to Raj. They scored 8 runs of the first 5 balls and needed a six of the last ball to win and Raj bowled a perfect yorker. KECC played well but were short by only 5 run in the end. Both teams played with great sportsmanship.

Shiv- 1/16

Tayade- 1/32

Yash- 2/32

Rahul- 2/14

Kudos to Raj J’s for smart keeping who got two stumping and a catch during crucial stage of the game, Amit and Shiv’s fielding on the boundary.

Thanks to Rohan for fielding on behalf of Gaurav. Without him it would have been difficult to win this game.

With this win FUCC earned #1 rank out of 28 teams in this CCL T20 tournament and every one of us had contributed to this success. We all should be proud the way we have played thus far, and I really hope that we do even better in the play-offs.

GO FUCC!!
