FUCC vs CDCC, CCL T20 Finals, 29th April 2017 @Weston Park

The stage was set for the 2017 T20 finals with the weather holding good. CDCC players looked keen to grab the winner’s trophy as they arrived with 15 players and immediately started their warm up and practice sessions. On the other hand FUCC players were working hard to get the ground ready which had a couple of huge puddles (thanks to heavy rains on Thursday, 27th night) in the extra cover area. You could see players using sponges’ and towels to get rid of 4 buckets of water and then covering the wet area with sand and mulch. The game started after a 75 min delay.

FUCC captain won the toss and elected to bat. Raj Thakur and Gaurav Parikh took center stage for FUCC whereas Venkat and Karthik shared the new ball for CDCC. The bowlers maintained good pace and line from ball one. Gaurav started sensibly whereas Raj attacked from ball one. In no time FUCC raced to 21 runs but in the 3rd over Gaurav was caught behind of Venkat’s bowling. Amit Kumar Tayade was back in the side after missing all the prior playoff games due to sickness. He walked in at no. 3 and looked in sublime form. Raj and Amit complemented each other by running hard and scoring boundaries. CDCC had done their homework and set fielders to cover Raj’s strong areas but were unable to limit his scoring abilities. FUCC were cruising at 8 runs per over at the end of power play. CDCC captain tried a few other bowlers but none of them could trouble either Raj or Amit. The batting duo brought up their 50 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Pranay Reddy was introduced and struck gold in the very 2nd ball when he had Raj caught at deep extra cover boundary. The pair added 62 runs for the 2nd wicket before Raj fell six runs short of yet another fifty. He scored 44 runs in 36 balls and smashed 6 mesmerizing fours. Sunil was promoted in order to further attack CDCC’s bowling. Confusion over if the batsmen crossed when Raj was dismissed lead to Amit being at the striker and Sunil at the non-striker end thus resulting in Amit being given out LBW in the very next ball. Pranay Reddy & team were on top of the world and their celebrations’ knew no boundaries. CDCC had pegged 2 wickets and were right back in the game. FUCC were 83 runsfor 2 wickets at the end of the 11th over. Rahul Mandewalker walked in at no. 4 and made his intentions clear. He played his shots and ran hard between the wickets. He hit a couple of magnificent boundaries and pulled the momentum back in FUCC’s favor. Sunil supported Rahul ably and the pair added 34 crucial runs before Rahul was caught behind by Yogesh of Chandu’s bowling. FUCC were 4 down for 117 runs in the 15th over. Navanith joined Sunil in the middle and fireworks were expected. The duo took the attack to CDCC when they both hit a six to Gautham in the 16th over. FUCC were 135 for 4 in 16 overs and looked all set to pocket more than 50 runs in the last 4 overs. Sunil was dismissed in the 17th over. Shiv walked in next and was run out while trying to give strike to Navanith. Yash joined Navanith in the middle. The boundaries were hard to come by due to some good death over bowling by CDCC. FUCC finished at 161 for the loss of 6 wickets. They were short by at least 15 to 20 runs but nonetheless a good score considering FUCC’s bowling and the pressure of chasing in finals.

CDCC opened with Aravind Reddy and Sunny Kessireddy whereas FUCC opted for left arm medium fast of Shiv and left arm fast of Harris Khan. FUCC drew first blood when the dangerous Aravind Reddy was given out LBW as he missed a fast straight delivery from Harris Khan. Sunny and Sagar counter attacked and kept the scoreboard moving. At the end of the 3rd over CDCC were 27 for 1. CDCC’s nemesis, Vinod was introduced and he kept up to his reputation. He got rid of Sunny and Murali caught by Raj in back to back deliveries. In the 5th over, Shiv had Sagar caught by Harissh at square leg. CDCC were 4 down for 48 runs in 5 overs but still had a very good run rate. Yogesh and Chandu, the two new batsmen had to make maintain the run rate without losing anymore wickets.  At the end of power play CDCC were 52 for 4. Harissh was introduced and along with Vinod kept the pressure on CDCC with some good line & length. CDCC were still scoring at 6 runs per over courtesy of some good running. Rahul was introduced in an attempt to get wickets but had no luck. CDCC needed 61 runs from the last 6 overs when Yash was introduced into the attack and boy he bowled a match defining over. He not only got Chandu stumped but also limited CDCC to just 2 runs in the over. In the next over Rahul had Yogesh caught at long on boundary courtesy a fantastic catch by Shiv. Suddenly, CDCC has 2 batsmen at the crease and needed around 56 runs in the last 4 overs. Harris (17th & 20th), Shiv (18th) and Vinod (19th) were given the responsibility to bowl the last 4 overs. In the 17th over Harris got rid of CDCC’s captain when he cleaned up Vamshi with a quick ball. In the 19th over Amit took a brilliant running catch to get rid of Gautham and give Vinod his 3rd wicket for the match. 26 runs were needed of the last over and Harris Khan made sure CDCC were bowled out 18 runs short of their target. It took a while for FUCC players to realize they had won the T20 championship. The team remained unbeaten through the league stages and then climbed one step at a time to be crowed as T20 champions. Once again FUCC got the better off CDCC in a champion game. Vinod was rightfully declared the man of the match.

Cheers,

Navanith

Match: FUCC vs CCCC, Semi-Finals T20 @Weston-Park
Saturday, April 22nd, 2017

First Innings

After comfortably beating KCCC in the QF FUCC was up for a bigger challenge against CCCC in a much awaited semi-finals game. CCCC were all pumped-up and eager to take revenge after their loss against us in the league stages. All measures were taken to start the game early as there was thunderstorm predictions later in the afternoon, which by the way turned out to be incorrect. FUCC won the toss and decided to bat first, the field was a bit wet but dried-out quickly as it was bright and sunny. The opening duo Raj and Gaurav started the innings for FUCC but unlike the previous games they could not get to a flying start this time. CCCC bowled very tight initially, especially Nitish who got both Gaurav and Kishan out for consecutive delivery when FUCC’s score was 10/2. Rahul joined Raj and they both consolidated and stabilized the innings. Their partnership of 57 runs was broken when Rahul was runout. Yash and Raj continued the momentum before yash got out to a good catch at the mid-wicket boundary. Sunil provided the much needed acceleration in the death overs and on the other end Raj reached his 50 and continued to maul the CCCC bowlers. FUCC pulled a great finish by scoring 64 runs in last 5 overs, from 98/4 in 15 overs to 162/6 in 20 overs. Kudos to some great hitting by Raj, Sunil and Navanith. Raj ended up with yet another brilliant innings of 86(60) truly has been the backbone of our batting for this T20 tournament.

Second Innings

Shiv got rid of Sarthak in the very first over and gave a perfect start that FUCC really needed while defending 162 against a good batting side. He almost got another wicket of their key batsman Steve but unfortunately Raj could not hold on to a tough catch behind the stumps. Khan on the other end contained them by bowling with some serious pace. Pressure was building on the CCCC batsmen but Steve and Nitish slowly steadied the ship. FUCC got the much needed breakthrough in the 7th over when Harrish got Nitish caught behind. Kudos to Nitish for his sportsmanship as he walked after the faint edge even though umpires could not hear it. Vikas and Steve capitalized on the bad balls and slowly gained back the momentum for CCCC at 76/2 in 10 overs.  Khan was reintroduced into the attack in the 11th over to regain some momentum and he bowled a maiden over putting the pressure right back on their batsman which resulted in a wicket next over when Harrish got Steve stumped. Vikas Singh initially survived some dropped catches but continued to score boundaries and was finally dismissed in the 15th over by Vinod to a smart catch by Raj behind the stumps. CCCC needed 64 runs in the last 6 overs when Karthik came to bat and he looked dangerous right away. Karthik consistently scored big boundaries every over and got them close to the target. 22 needed of the last two over and Raj was given the ball. Karthik managed to hit a four and a six of the first two deliveries. At this point the body language dropped and when most of us thought it was game over, Karthik got out of the third delivery to a super catch in the deep covers by our captain Navanith and we still remember him shouting as hell “COME ON!! game abhi khatam nahi hua” and he was damn right. It was indeed an important wicket and that changed the course of the game. CCCC managed to score 14 runs of the 19th over and needed only 8 runs of the last over. After a long discussion ball was handed to Vinod, he bowled with great accuracy right in the block hole, conceded only 5 runs of the five deliveries. CCCC needed 3 to win and 2 to draw of the last ball when vinod bowled another yorker that went straight to Harish in the inner circle, both batsman attempted the second run but were runout by long way and FUCC won by just one run. The entire team was relieved after the victory, this will be an unforgettable last over and will cherish this moment for a very long time.

MOM: Raj Thakur for his brilliant 86 runs, 2 wickets, three catches and 1 stumping.

GO FUCC!!

Match Report: FUCC vs KCCC, CCL T-20 Quarterfinal 16th April 2017@Weston park

posted May 4, 2017, 10:12 AM by Rahul Mandewalker

It was another beautiful day for cricket with bright and sunny blue sky, few fluffy clouds and a cool gentle breeze. Both of the teams look eager to continue their momentum where they left from yesterday. It was a crucial quarterfinal match, and we all knew this will take us one step closer. Both the umpires showed up just on time and the FUCC captain Mr. Navinth ‘the invincible’ went on for the toss with the positive grim that he always has. He won the toss and straight away picked to bat first. The inform duo Raj ‘the destructor’ and Gaurav went on to the crease to start the innings. They started playing their natural shots with some boundaries by making the average above 8 for the first couple of overs. The third over is when Gaurav’s luck turned against him and he was caught behind on a loosener. One down came Kishan who couldn’t seem to find any momentum perishes by chipping it to the long off boundary for a simple catch. The next man to come to the crease was Yash. This is when FUCC’s total score was 27 for 2 in 5 overs. They both started playing some sensible cricket and continue to build a partnership by keeping the score board ticking. Raj was playing good, hitting some fine shots like he always does and trying not to give any momentum to any bowler. They made the total up to 60 in 9 overs and thats when Raj was bowled out while taking a big heave towards square leg boundary. FUCC lost their third wicket and in came Rahul at number 5. Rahul started scoring some quick runs taking singles and doubles. Until then FUCC realized the boundaries are hard to come by. They both were running for everything and putting pressure to the fielders. At the end of 12 overs, the total score was 80 for 3. Shortly after Yash looses his wicket and ‘the evergreen’ Sunny K joins Rahul at the crease. They both looked good and scored some rare boundaries which was crucial at this point which seems needed. They both started playing aggressive and FUCC was eyeing for a decent total. FUCC was 95 for 4 in 14 overs at this stage. Soon Sunny K and Rahul losses their wicket in quick intervals and due to that Harris Khan and Navinth were at the crease. They both start picking up where Rahul left and total was 112  for 6 in 16 overs. This is when Harris Khan scored the first six of the match, what a crucial hit that was for FUCC. Soon after this Harris also looses his wicket making the total up to 128 for 7 in 18 overs. Next batsman to come was non other than the inform allrounder Shiv. He and Navinth started running hard and during that there were some slight misunderstanding and Shiv was run out and Harissh was the next batsman to join Navi in the crease. Navi then made sure FUCC have a decent total to chase by hitting the second six of the match putting up a total score of 150 for 8 in 20 overs.

Courtesy goes to the KCCC bowlers too. They kept their nerve and bowled at the right place and never let any FUCC batsman to settle and play long innings. They bowled some brilliant spells containing ‘on a rampage’ FUCC for 150.

Raj - 38(23)

Rahul - 27(17)

As usual Sukesh started the bowling attack. He bowled a good first over giving only 5 runs and Harris Khan followed him with the next over and what an over that turned out to be. He takes a leg before and breaks the opening partnership. Sukesh on the other hand continued the momentum with even a better over taking two wickets in a in two deliveries. It seemed like the KCCC line up is starting to crumble one by one. They have no idea how to play this bowling combination. On one hand they were barely seeing the ball where as on the other had it was swinging in and taking their wicket down. There were no shots to offer and it looked like they were trying to just figure how to finish this spell. Seeing this moment the captain decided to bring Shiv. Field was tight and bowling was at its best. Batsman seems to get frustrated because they didn’t have any choice other than to take risk playing shots. This is when Shiv clinches another wicket with his brilliant attack. At this point KCCC was 28 for 4 in 6 overs. To keep up with this momentum the captain kept the field to just the way it was by not letting any batsman to settle. There were no singles inside the circle whereas the bowlers are not giving any room to play any shots. Following another over, Suki takes another wicket to finish his spell. What a brilliant spell he bowled taking 3 wickets for just 13 runs. In the mean time, Gaurav joined the lime light by hitting the stumps on the nonstriker sending another batsman to the pavilion. What a throw that was! the batsman didn’t get a chance. Shiv continued his wicket taking momentum by taking another wickets. The total was 53 for 8 in 11 overs. To this point KCCC’s chances of coming back looked slim and their confidence and body language seemed that they have given up for the chase. But we knew the game was not over until its over. Navi joins the attack bowling a maiden over. It seemed like the KCCC are up to playing out the full 20 overs. They continued hitting with some odd boundaries and added few more to the total and continued to take out overs which is when Harissh was brought to attack. He takes the ninth wicket for FUCC. Rahul was the other bowler to follow Harissh. Couple of more overs were bowled and final moment came on the 18th over when Rahul take the last wicket to clinch another comfortable victory. FUCC contained KCCC for just 89 winning by 61 runs. This is a huge victory and should definitely boost FUCC’s moral for the semi final.

Sukesh B - 13/3

Harris K - 20/2

What a tremendous effort by FUCC.

GO FUCC.

CL INNINGS

Everyone in the league was talking about Shinde's 140 runs innings before the game and having heard that our bowlers are aware of their first target and have come up with excellent game plan not just for Shinde but as well as for the rest of the CL Team...and that is "Stick to Basics".

Sukesh aka Bhuvneshwar Kumar of  FUCC got first strike at their opener Mohammed ali supported by EXCELLENT catch from Yash at covers.
The very next over, Shiv striked againwith a lethal delivery to Shinde that kissed his bat and jumped into safe hands of Raj.
Sukesh got another wicket in his spell with courtesy of a stunning one hand catch from Shiv at long on.
This pair bowled a very good spell keeping things at a place and the CL batsman was never comfortable in the spell.
With the change of the spell, In comes Navi and Vinod who bowled well but were hit for few runs which eventually helped them to post a decent total at the end.
Navi decided to slow their runs pace and have brought another change of spell with Harissh and Yash.
This duo have dragged back the momentum from CL and bowled beautifully...Yash and Harissh got 3 wickets during their spell supported by excellent catching from the team and not to foget brilliant ground fielding and two terrific runout's from Kishan. Rahul M chipped in with couple of overs at the end of the CL innings grabbing a wicket ensuring no heroics from their batsman.

CL ended up their innings at 124/9.

Special Mentions: Sukesh and Shiv's spell, Harissh and Yash's spell, Ground fielding by Kishan at point and Brilliant catching from Gaurav, Shiv and Yash.

FUCC INNINGS

Everyone in the team are well aware of the tricky situations many teams were in the past chasing low totals.
Keeping that in mind our opening pair Raj and Gaurav started the chase in a positive way running hard between the wickets and hitting odd boundaries.
Raj got out to a loosener by Shinde and Gaurav followed Raj adding another 7 runs to the team total. FUCC is 87/2.
Having a platform setup by opening pair, Kishan and Sunny E took quick singles and doubles in the run chase without much pressure of the required rate.
Kishan striking few boundaries helped the team in a smooth chase and he got out by a stunning catch at cover from Jadhav.
Rahul M ensured the teams win with a boundary to wrap up the day and FUCC is into Quarter Finals.

Special Mentions: Raj and Gaurav's Partnership, Kishan's Innings.

We are now few steps away from the Crown, Let's focus on the path rather than the destination....we are a Champion Team and we will be "CHAMPIONS".....Go FUCC.

Thanks,
Sunny

Match Report: FUCC vs KECC, 6th T20 2017 @Wesotn park, April 1st 2017

posted May 4, 2017, 9:39 AM by Rahul Mandewalker

FUCC vs KECC, 6th T20 2017 Carolina Cricket League @Wesotn park, April 1st 2017

FUCC were riding high after winning all their league games so far in the tournament and comfortably secured their spot in the play-offs. However, this games was also important for them to win to earn #1 rank in the tournament. After winning the toss FUCC decided to bat first. Gaurav and Raj opened the innings and as usual Raj gave a flying start and Gaurav had to retire as he started feeling sick. Raj showed no mercy on KECC bowlers, he kept hitting boundaries and sixes all-round the park before getting out on 43 of just 26 balls. Next in was Raj from Raleigh, Hit and Run team, playing his debut match for FUCC. Both Kishan and Raj scored at a steady pace and had a partnership of 35 runs. Stage was all set for FUCC to start accelerating but KECC made an excellent comeback by picking 6 wickets for just 21 runs, courtesy Ovais Quadir who took 3 wickets in his spell for only 9 runs, putting FUCC on the back foot at 104/8 in 15 overs. Rahul and Shiv continued from where they left in the morning game and had another unbeaten partnership of 50 runs taking FUCC to a respectable total of 153 in 20 overs.

Raj- 43(26)

Kishan- 24(29)

Rahul- 26(20) not out

Shiv- 24(17) not out.

Shiv started the bowling with a maiden over and Navi on the other end bowled with control but was unlucky in picking wickets as he did not get support from the fielders. KECC started off very cautiously scoring about 30 runs in the first 6 overs but they knew with their captian Zeeshan on the crease, required run rate will never be an issue for them. Zeeshan played smartly in his innings of 30+ before he fell to a good catch by Shiv on the long-off. Both Amit and Yash finished their spell with economic figures. Game was still on as KECC batsman kept rotating strike and scoring boundaries consistently. Raj and Rahul were introduced into bowling when KECC needed 60 odd runs in the last 7 overs and they both bowled with control giving about 7-8 run an over when the required run rate was above 10. In the last over KECC needed 14 run to win and Navi handed the ball to Raj. They scored 8 runs of the first 5 balls and needed a six of the last ball to win and Raj bowled a perfect yorker. KECC played well but were short by only 5 run in the end. Both teams played with great sportsmanship.

Shiv- 1/16

Tayade- 1/32

Yash- 2/32

Rahul- 2/14

Kudos to Raj J’s for smart keeping who got two stumping and a catch during crucial stage of the game, Amit and Shiv’s fielding on the boundary.

Thanks to Rohan for fielding on behalf of Gaurav. Without him it would have been difficult to win this game.

With this win FUCC earned #1 rank out of 28 teams in this CCL T20 tournament and every one of us had contributed to this success. We all should be proud the way we have played thus far, and I really hope that we do even better in the play-offs.

GO FUCC!!

Match Report : 5th T20: FUCC vs TUFCC, Weston Park, 4/1/2017

posted May 4, 2017, 9:36 AM by Rahul Mandewalker

FUCC won all their games comfortably this season and are looking to continue their undefeated streak. The conditions are very wet due to heavy rain over night. FUCC Stand-in captain Sukesh lost the toss and FUCC were put to bat first. Raj and Amit started off very cautiously and they started to score runs. Amit got out hit-wicket in the 3rd over from Shan when he tried to stop the ball which was going on to the stumps. Yash joined Raj and they both setup a good partnership with some great running along with scoring on loose balls. The odd ball was skidding due to wet field and the sixes are hard to come-by due to the heaviness of the ball. Still, they managed to hang-in there by keeping their head down and scoring runs when ever they could. FUCC were at 40/1 by the end of 6 overs. They had a 74run partnership before Raj got out on the long-off boundary with a beautiful catch by Shahid. Then came Sunil who started hitting well but got out on the long-on boundary and then FUCC lost Yash and SunnyE in quick session. Those were some anxious moments in the dug-out, when things looked like a collapse but Rahul and shiv ensured the kind of  team we are and showed everyone how to rebuild the innings and score the runs. They ran so hard for the initial 3 overs without taking risks and then when things looked settled, they kept scoring boundaries of every delivery. Finally, FUCC were able to double the score in last 8 overs due to some great batting in the end by Rahul and SHiv. FInally FUCC ended up scoring 183 from the 20 overs which is a huge total when you look at the conditions in the morning.

These are the best performers in the batting department . Raj - 47(36)    Yash - 37(28)   Shiv - 40*(21)   Rahul 31*(17)

By the start of second innings, the ground dried up and FUCC were ready for some counter attack by TUFCC. The second innings started with Sukesh and  Shiv sharing the new ball. Shahn and Taz Ameen opened for TUFCC. Sukesh and Shiv bowled very economically by not giving any free runs. Sukesh got the first break during the 3rd over when he cleaned up Taz Ameen. Shiv continued to bowl with very tight line and length. At the end of 6overs, TUFCC were at 26/1. They had humongous total ahead to chase. Vinod came-in as first change and Amit as 2nd change. They both continued the pressure on them. Vinod removed Umar in his 2nd over and the captain of TUFCC "Imran" joined Shahn and they started counter-attacking the bowlers. Imran was able to score some quick runs before he got out to Harish, courtesy some great catching by Amit Tayade. At that moment TUFCC were still in business with some 80runs needed from 6-7 overs. Harish, the leading wicket taker of CCL was again in business right away producing chances in every over. Yash was asked to try his luck with the ball for the first time and he bowled decently, but couldn't get any wicket. Vinod on the other end continued to bowl according to the field and kept taking wickets. Sunil was introduced in the last over and he did his job well by grabbing two wickets in 2 balls.  At one point of time FUCC looked like they are going to wrap them below 100, but It was a bad day for catching department of FUCC, as there were at-least 10 dropped chances which resulted in TUFCC scoring 146 runs.

These are the best performers in bowling department. Vinod 3/34,   Harish 2/37,   Sunil 2/7.   Shiv was very economical with 15runs from 4 overs.

Overall Great Batting with Partnerships, Good Economical Bowling, Great catches from Amit Tayade, Good ground fielding from FUCC gave us a well deserved 5th win of the season and a momentum to take forward into the second game of the day.

Match Report: 4th T20 game vs MCC by Sunny Kriplani

posted Mar 29, 2017, 12:30 PM by Rahul Mandewalker

Match no. 4 and FUCC was playing Maharaja Cricket Club (MCC) at Weston Park. FUCC was keen on getting back their revenge for their humiliating defeat in 2015 in Div 2. MCC were riding high on confidence after beating KECC earlier in the day and with the arrival of reinforcement for the 2nd game. MCC skipper won the toss and elected to bat. Under cloudy conditions and rain forecast MCC batsmen started their batting. Chandu and Santosh opened for MCC whereas Navanith and Harris shared the new ball. Navanith struck in the very 1st over by dismissing Chandu caught by Harris Khan at mid-off.  Rohit joined Srini in the middle to take charge of MCC’s innings. Apart from wide’s, Khan and Navi bowled a tight spell and restricted the run rate to less than 6 runs per over. The momentum shifted in the 6th over when 13 runs were conceded and MCC were 40 for 1 at the end of power play. The introduction of Sunny, Gurtej and Harissh lead to another 21 runs in 3 overs. MCC batsmen were looking set but Santosh had to retire hurt. The short break lead to Rohit’s downfall when he was caught at covers by Harris off Gurtej’s bolwing. Gurtej got his 1st CCL wicket. Warren and Srini, the 2 new batsmen in the middle took the attack to FUCC bowlers and had a quick 47 runs partnership in just 28 balls. Warren punished anything in his zone and smashed 32 runs in just 14 balls. At this stage, MCC were 114 for 2 and looked all set to post a huge total. Harris Khan halted MCC’s progress when his quick delivery uprooted Warren’s stumps. Harissh applied more pressure by getting 2 quick wickets and applied breaks on the scoring rate. Rahul was introduced and struck immediately when he had Rajesh caught at covers by Khan. Dennis was reintroduced and struck twice in an over. He first got rid of Santosh and then had Srini stumped courtesy Gaurav’s quick and athletic wicket keeping. Rahul picked up another wicket in his 2nd over to further dent MCC’s innings. Clouds opened up during the tail end of the 1st innings but the game continued. MCC finished their innings at 155 for 9.

The drizzle continued and FUCC’s inning was delayed by 10 mins. FUCC started with Raj and Gaurav. Rohit and Geoff shared the new ball for MCC. The openers started cautiously and attacked any loose deliveries in their zone. FUCC openers were on a roll scoring at more 10 runs an over for the first 3 overs. The attack continued and FUCC were 56 for no loss at the end of power play. Gaurav & Raj played complimented each other by mixing aggression with sensible batting. MCC tried different bowling combinations but were unable to make any breakage, Raj and Gaurav ran hard and kept scoring boundaries at ease. At the 11th over mark FUCC were 101 for no loss when it started drizzling again. Both Raj and Gaurav decided to go full throttle and scored the remaining 55 runs in just 17 balls. In doing so, both the batsmen reached a well-deserved half century. FUCC reached their target of 156 in just 13.5 overs. Raj scored 75 runs from 46 balls smashing 4 towering sixes and 6 boundaries. People seldom ask Raj on what kind of meat he consumes because when he hits, the ball travels like a trace of bullet and does a lot damage to a bowlers’ confidence.  On the other hand, a lean fit Gaurav scored 66 runs in 38 balls hitting 9 boundaries and 1 six.
Well played Raj & Gaurav, keep it up.
Best of luck fuccers for the next 2 games, let's finish at the top.
Enjoy!!!!
Cheers.
Sunny.

Match Report: 3rd T20 Game vs QCCC by Harissh

posted Mar 29, 2017, 12:29 PM by Rahul Mandewalker

2nd game of the day for FUCC. QCCC won the toss and decided to bat. Sukesh and Shiv shared the new ball again for FUCC. QCCC openers were off to a decent start during the PP. Viral Patel was dismissed by Navanith in 6th over after a nice little cameo. 2 overs later Shiv picked up his 1st wicket for FUCC by dismissing the other opener Niraj. QCCC captain Chaitanya struggled to get off the mark and ended up mistiming a short ball from Shiv and was caught by Sukesh at mid-on. Natraj and Jayul counter attacked in the next couple of overs and started rebuilding the innings for QCCC. Jayul was caught brilliantly by Amit off the bowling of Harissh while trying to clear the boundary. Ankur joined Natraj and the duo added 43 runs in the next 4 overs before Natraj was holed out in the deep by Sunil giving Harissh his 2nd wicket. Shiv dismissed Ankur by taking a nice catch of his bowling and cleaned up Hemanth the next ball. Navanith bowled a tight last over and FUCC restricted QCCC to 128 in 20 overs.

Natraj – 45(34)

Shiv – 4/24

Raj and Amit started the run chase for FUCC. Raj was off with his trademark cover drive and a towering six over long on. Amit was trapped in front of the wicket in the 3rd over and FUCC lost their 1st wicket with 20 on the board. Kishan joined Raj and the duo added 24 runs in the next couple of overs before Raj was cleaned up by Hemanth. Sunil joined Kishan and built the partnership. The two ran hard when boundaries where hard to come and did not allow QCCC to get back into the game. Kishan played some nice cover drives and square cuts during his innings and Sunil hit 3 huge sixes and the duo added 50 runs in the next 5 overs. Sunil scored his maiden 50 in CCL before being caught at covers with FUCC needing less than 10 runs. Kishan remained unbeaten on 43 and FUCC notched up its 3rd win in 3 games this season.

Sunil – 50(30)

Kishan – 43*(35)

Match Report: 2nd T20 Game vs CBCC by Rajan Thakur

After a massive victory against CCCC, FUCC traveled to Kill Borne, Charlotte to play against CBCC and QCCC. Team was extra motivated to play against CBCC since they defeated us last year T20 in QF.

A beautiful day with little cold but sunny, Captain lost the toss and FUCC was invited to bat. Raj and Amit opened the inning for FUCC. Raj was first one to go after being deceived on a slow looping delivery. Kishan joined Amit and both took the attack back to CBCC and both had a partnership of 41. Amit lost his composure and got bowled to in coming ball. He had dispatched a similar ball out of the park using someone's bat (Who was that...!) :P. Sunil joined but could not contribute more. Then came the Old mighty fox of FUCC, Sunny Kirplani and boy he played an innings of great display. In between Kishan also threw his wicket after playing a sensible innings of 22 runs. Sunny E joined Sunny K and it was great to see two Sunny's taking attack back to CBCC. Sunny E was especially in a different zone . He with Sunny K hit some massive sixes and both of them together had a healthy partnership of 46 runs in no time and gave FUCC innings a boost. After both got out, Vinod and Navi had a good partnership and both pushed the scrod to 181/7 in 20 overs. A very competitive score in Kill Borne.

CBCC had a target in mind and had an advantage in some way. And top of that they were playing at their home ground. So game was evenly balanced at that time. Both CBCC openers attacked Sukesh and had a good start to the innings. But FUCC  came back strong after batsmen were decoded  brilliantly by both Suki and Shiv and Suki had the last laugh. Shiv played a nice role of stopping the runs and hence resulting first wicket for Suki. After that Vinod and Navi bowled economically grabbing a wicket a piece. But star of the day was Harish. H bowled with such a control that no CBCC batsman was able to decode him. He broke the spine of CBCC and grabbed 4 wickets and ended with the figure of 3-0-4-9. CBCC was bowled out of miserly 93. And FUCC won the game by 88 runs.

MOM - Sunny K for scoring 38 and grabbing a wicket.

Match Report for 1st T20 game vs CCCC by Navanith Shetty

FUCC’s CCL T20 season kicked off amidst cold weather and snow forecast. It was freezing in the morning but the sun god decided to show up and shed some sunlight and kept the winds away. FUCC was playing theT35 champions Charlotte City Cricket Club (CCCC). at Weston Park.  Three extremely talented all-rounders’ Mark Peacock, Shiv Kumar and Yashasvi Kotagiri joined FUCC in their attempt to conquer CCCC.

CCCC captain won the toss and invited FUCC to bat first. The pride of FUCC Raj Thakur and the ever dependable Amit Tayade opened the batting whereas Tanuj and Nitish did the bowling honors for CCCC. Raj continued from where he left last season, attacking the loose deliveries and respecting the good ones. On the other hand, Amit played a perfect second fiddle to Raj by rotating the strike and running hard between the wickets. Raj struck a couple of hefty blows and FUCC gained momentum and reached 50 in no time. Against the run of play, Amit was brilliantly caught at covers when FUCC’s total was 52. Yash joined Raj in the middle and carried on from where Amit had left. Raj continued playing his shots and soon reached his fifty. Yash started piercing gaps for ones & twos and Raj stepped on the accelerator by striking boundaries and sixes at will. FUCC started scoring around 10 runs an over and reached 100 runs in the 10th over. In the next over Raj was dismissed with the team score at 106. Raj alone scored 81 runs in 48 runs striking 12 fours and 3 towering sixes. This man is indeed a run scoring machine and keeps pounding the opponents. Rahul joined Yash and the two ran to keep the momentum going but fell within 6 runs of each other. At this stage FUCC were 131 for 4 at the end of the 15th over. Fireworks were expected with Mark and Navanith in the middle but accurate bowling from CCCC meant that the pair had to run hard to keep the scoreboard ticking. They both hit the odd boundary but mainly relied on converting ones into twos and twos into threes. The pair quickly added 43 runs before Navanith was run out in the last over. Mark too was run out of the last ball of the innings and FUCC finished at 176 for the loss of 5 wickets. A good score but they could have scored another 20 to 25 runs especially with the kind of start they got.

FUCC was keen on testing its bowling attack which consisted of some very good fast bowlers and spinners. Sukesh and Harris Khan shared the new ball and were attacking the CCCC openers from ball one. Sukesh drew first blood by dismissing CCCC’s opener courtesy of a good stumping by Raj Thakur. Harris Khan on the other bowled with sheer pace and had the batsmen running for cover. He did not give an inch to the batsmen. Stephen and his partner were struggling against the right & left hand combination and were unable to make use of the field restrictions. After 5 overs CCCC were 20 runs for 1. Shiv, another left arm fast bowler was introduced and continued from where Harris had left. CCCC were 26 for 1 at the end of the power play. Mark was introduced in 7thover and went for runs. CCCC needed this impetus and were scoring around run a ball. Stephen was looking set for a big innings but was cleaned up in the 9th over by Navanith. Harris Khan was reintroduced in the 10th over and delivered a double blow to CCCC. He picked up 2 wickets and CCCC were struggling at 58 for 4 at the end of the 10th over. Nitish and Prajeeth started rebuilding the innings. The introduction of Harissh resulted in the downfall of Prajeeth who was brilliantly caught by Shiv at long on boundary. The very next ball Harissh cleaned up Nitish and CCCC’s innings was crumbling at 86 for 6. In an attempt to end CCCC’s innings, Mark was reintroduced and bowled yorkers to claim his maiden wicket for FUCC. A few dropped catches prolonged CCCC’s inning. Harissh and Navanith further dented CCCC’s innings but somehow the last pair played out 20 overs and CCCC finished at 127 for the loss of 9 wickets. FUCC registered their 1st win of the season by 49 runs.

Key points

  • Batsmen played in partnerships, we had two 50 runs (Raj & Amit, Raj & Yash) and one 40+ (Mark & Navanith) run partnership

  • Bowlers bowled well in partnership, Sukesh & Harris Khan, Shiv & Harissh, Navanith & Harris

  • Good ground fielding and catching. Shiv, Mark, Yash, Amit and Sukesh were exceptional

  • Catching still needs a lot of improvement, need to tighten screws on ground fielding and avoid misfields and overthrows

Overall, a great start to season and we need to keep this momentum going.

Cheers,

Navanith
